We specialise in bespoke installations – our vast design and installation experience allows us to engineer solutions not available to competitors that rely on standard or package lifts. Whether the lift is in a listed building or needs to be installed with reduced clearances – we are likely to already have a solution!
UK House
UK House is a neo-baroque building on the junction of London’s Oxford Street and Great Titchfield Street. Originally opened in 1906 as a department store, it is now multi-tenanted office building, retaining some retail space on the Oxford Street side. Phased renovation work began in 2017, which included extending the building to include a residential penthouse floor and replacing the lifts. Elan has been fully involved in the replacement of the lifts; these include:
A six-car group utilizing a touch screen destination control system, MRL gearless machines, tall lift cars with bespoke high-gloss curved wall finishes and an increased duty of 1275kg at 2.0 m/sec.
- 4 x MRL Firefighters Lifts, fully compliant with EN81-72 (firefighting lifts).
- 1 x 4000kg Hydraulic MRL Cycle Lift.
- 1 x Private Residential Express Lift, serving the Ground and Penthouse levels
- 2 x 3150kg / 1200kg Goods Lifts.
The building was fully occupied during the refurbishment works. The quality of the finished installation was such that it featured on the front cover of the trade magazine Elevator World.
Aga Khan Centre
This is a new build Islamic educational and cultural establishment in the Kings Cross area of London. Elan were commissioned to install five lifts in the building, these included two bespoke scenic lifts.
These lifts were especially challenging due to the architect’s exacting requirements. One lift is rated at 1000kg, the other at 2000kg – both had to be guided on the same axis and the guide rails could only be secured at floor level (up to 5m). All fixings and supports had to be hidden from view.
As well as the lift installation, Elan designed and installed the glazing at the front of the lift well.
Flitcroft Street
This is an office building converted from a Victorian warehouse, the exposed beams and brick wall were to be retained as a feature. The lift structure was designed to enhance the new and retained features of the building. The entire installation including the steel structure and glazing were designed and installed by Elan. The lift serves 3 front and 2 rear floors and is rated at 10 persons or 800kg.
